Travel Tips
Plan Ahead
1. Buy tickets ahead of time (online works great!). This will save many hours standing in line!
2. Search online for information on visitation times and prices. (Run a general search for bureaus/offices of tourism and tourist information in the local you wish to visit)
3. Get city street maps of the places you wish to visit and map out the route you will take. It is very easy to get lost in the bigger cities.
4. It is frowned upon to wear shorts, sleeveless shirts, or otherwise revealing clothing when visiting churces.
*If you are planning to visit the Vatican, you WILL NOT be admitted unless you are wearing long pants (or a long skirt) and have your shoulders covered.
Packing
1. Walking is the primary mode of transportation in most European cities. Bring comfortable walking shoes!
2. The summer months in the Mediterranean are HOT!- though it can be quite cool in the evenings, especially near the water. Pack accordingly and don’t forget your bathing suit!
3. Travel light, especially if you are traveling to several different cities. It will make transportation much easier.

Transportation
1. Taxis are good mode of transportation, but can be quite expensive. the best way is to rent a car, do you want a low fare? go online. type in google car rental malaga or car hire malaga an you will get information about carrental companies in Malaga, or car rental in Spain. but remember book online ahead of time if you want to save money..
Shopping
1. Bargaining is usually acceptable in flea market/antique market situations (except in France- bargaining is rarely acceptable here). Most shops have fixed prices for their items.
2. Don’t rely on U.S. dollars. Major credit cards are usually accepted. But in cash situations the Euro is the accepted currency in the Mediterranean region (except for Malta, which uses the Maltese Lira).
3. Remember that various regional and international taxes can be applied to your purchase. Your sales person will likely have information on this subject.
Dining
1. Bottled water is recommended in most Mediterranean cities, just to be on the safe side.
2. Research local dishes and beverages. For example, most regions of Italy have specific wines that they are known for (and very proud of!). If you’re not sure, just ask your waiter. Most locals will be happy to explain local dishes and customs to you.
Safety
1. Travel in groups of three or more if possible.
2. Take only what you need when exploring cities.
3. DO NOT put valuables (wallets/money/etc.) in your back pants pockets. Keep these items in a front pocket or buttoned side cargo pocket.
4. If you are carrying a bag with you keep it in the front of your body so that you can monitor the pockets at all times.
5. Don’t carry your passport with you if possible.
6. Just keep your eyes and ears open and you will have a wonderful time!
When in doubt, ask a local. I found that most people are very friendly and willing to help you out.
Bon Voyage!
